Women's Basketball Upsets #12 Florida Southwestern

Down goes Frazier...well, #12 Florida Southwestern. For the first time in over five years, women's basketball defeats a nationally top-25 ranked opponent.

The Panthers received an outstanding performance from Sophomore transfer Reagan Hune. Hune, no stranger to the spotlight, made plays when it counted on Saturday afternoon. She led the team with 15 points and shot a respectable 7-12 from the floor. Izzy Allen was the Panthers' statistical darling, as she contributed a double-double. Allen scored 12, which was 2nd on the team, and contributed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 1 steal and 2 blocks.

If you're looking for a difference in the game, look no further than the disparity between the two teams' shooting percentages. Palm Beach shot nearly 55% from the floor and 45% from 3-point range. Florida Southwestern shot just 36.5% from the floor and nearly 29% from beyond the arc.

After falling behind 16-14 after one quarter, PBSC never looked back. They took control of the game going into the half and never relinquished the lead through the end of the game. It seemed as though every time FSW made a basket, Palm Beach had an answer. That's not to say that things were not tight. Each possession mattered. Each shot mattered. With the game somewhat hanging in the balance, FSW had a critical turnover with just seconds left to play due to an errant pass. Coach Maureen Smith brilliantly took advantage of the rules, which allowed her to advance the ball into Panther territory with less than 3 seconds on the board. Izzy Allen inbounded the pass and it was stolen by an FSW defender, but FSW could not advance down the court before time expired, earning a victory for visiting Palm Beach State.

After picking up the "W" against FSW, the Panthers travel to Hillsborough Community College next Wednesday for a non-conference matchup.
