Women's Basketball Overcomes Adversity for First Win

The Panthers dressed only six players in a convincing victory over Warner University to open the 2020-2021 season.

In what was their first game since last March, the Panthers showed little rust blasting 86 points on their way to an opening-night win. The starting lineup consisted of four returners, highlighted by 2019-2020 All-State player Izzy Allen.

All five starters scored double digit points with freshman Vendela af Malmborg leading the team with 23 points. af Malmborg attempted a whopping 14 three-point field goals. Jaliyah Spencer was 7-15 from the floor whilst shooting 75% from the free throw line. Sade Bass led the team in rebounds, collecting 10 defensive boards and 15 total. Izzy Allen shot 6-10 from the floor and contributed an impressive four blocked shots.

Freshman Alyssa Herder made her Panthers debut contributing eight points off the bench. She finished an efficient 2-3 from the floor, made 4-5 free throws, and had eight total rebounds.

The Panthers will have some time off before taking on Florida National University at home on January 27. A reminder that all indoor home games are currently closed to spectators. Livestreams will be available on the Women's Basketball YouTube channel.
