Panthers Extend Winning Streak to 5

Palm Beach State Women's Basketball continued their hot streak to begin 2020. Last week, the Panthers won two games, extending their win streak to five. The Panthers defeated ASA Miami at home 74-42 Wednesday, and they defeated Broward College on the road Saturday, 73-59.

As a result of PBSC's five-game winning streak, the Panthers now have a record of 11-10. Palm Beach State is in first place in the Southern Conference and are ranked 10th in the NJCAA Region 8 poll.

Wednesday's home victory is the fifth consecutive win in Lake Worth for the Panthers. PBSC defeated ASA Miami 74-42. Forward Kaelei Koenig recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.  Stina Rehn-Andersson scored 16 points, and Maria Benitez-Zayas added 13.

ASA Miami shot only 26 percent from the field, connecting on only 16 of their 61 shots. The Silverswords scored only three points in the fourth quarter. Palm Beach State was dominant on the boards, out-rebounding ASA 61-28.

The Panthers improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 73-59 victory over Broward College. Palm Beach State looked impressive in their second conference road game. Koenig (12 points) and Rehn-Andersson (16 points) each had their second double-digit scoring night of the week. Izzy Allen had 16 points, with six rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Alma Danielsson scored 15.

Against Broward, Palm Beach State recorded 24 assists. After being outscored 20-14 in the first quarter, the Panthers outscored Broward in each of the following quarters.

The Panthers look to continue their winning streak with a pair of home games this week. Miami-Dade College will visit Lake Worth on Wednesday—this will be this season's first game between the two teams. The Panthers will face Indian River State College on Saturday. Palm Beach State defeated the Pioneers 72-64 on the road to open conference play.
