Zach Dodson Twirls Complete Game as Baseball Downs Eastern FL 4-1

Zach Dodson twirls a complete game victory over Eastern FL on Thursday, April 23, 2021.

Dodson, earns his 6th victory, as he dominated opposing hitters. He allowed only 5 hits, 1 run, 0 earned runs, and struck out 7 over his 9 innings of work on Thursday afternoon in Melbourne, FL.

With the victory, Palm Beach earns their 30th win on the season, which would be the most victories at Palm Beach since the 2018 season.

PBSC came out firing on all cylinders as we scored 3 runs in the 1st inning. With two on and one out, Catcher Thomas Diaz singled home Tristan Moore to take the lead 1-0. Next batter, Sal Grinstead, singled home Jarret Bickel to put the Panthers up 2-0. After a failed sacrifice bunt attempt in which the runner was thrown out at 3rd base, Justin Tew knocked home another run with yet another single. Palm Beach lead 3-0 after one inning of play.

Zach Dodson was on cruise control until he hit a blip in the 2nd inning. The leadoff batter doubled and after two consecutive outs, a strikeout and a throwing error trying to put the runner away at first base led to the only run for Eastern FL on the afternoon. Dodson struck out 4 in the inning, a baseball rarity.

Palm Beach would tack on another run in the 6th. Albert Espinosa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate the Panthers' 4th run. That was all they would need.

Jarret Bickel led the team with 4 hits - all singles. Cleanup batter Thomas Diaz was 2-3 with an RBI and 2 walks.

Panthers travel back to Palm Beach for a final regular season game on Saturday at 1:00 ET versus Eastern FL.
