Baseball Earns Double-Header Sweep Over ASA

Baseball earns double-header sweep in dramatic fashion over ASA Miami.

In game 1, Palm Beach struck first as Justin Tew singled home Tristan Moore to put the Panthers up 1-0. Tew would advance to 2nd on the throw home. Next batter, Thomas Diaz, grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored the runner from 3rd. Palm Beach would go up by 2.

The score remained 2-0 Panthers until the top of the 7th inning. With the bases loaded and only one out, former PBSC Panther Harry Vargas grounded into a fielder's choice, which tied the game at 2-2. The next batter reached on an error by Jarret Bickel, which put the visiting Silver Storm up by one.

In the bottom of the inning, Palm Beach roared right back. Tristan Moore doubled home Brannon Mondragon to tie the game at 3-3. Billy Poure reached on an error and Justin Tew was intentionally walked to lead the bases. Thomas Diaz strolled up to the plate an promptly singled to right field on the 2nd pitch of the at bat to plate the game winning run.

Ethan Petric started for Palm Beach and held the opposition scoreless through 5 innings of work. He allowed only 2 hits and struck out 7. Tyler Montoya earned the win in relief.

Tristan Moore led the team with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. Thomas Diaz led the hitters with 2 RBI.


In game 2, PBSC struck early. In the bottom half of the 1st, the Panthers scored 4 runs. Tristan Moore tripled on a line drive to center field, which plated the first run of the game. Thomas Diaz walked with the bases loaded drive in another -- the Panthers led 2-0 after Diaz's walk. Next batter, Sal Grinstead, was out on a sacrifice fly to center, which plated Justin Tew. Albert Espinoza sacrificed to the pitcher, but scored the runner from third, putting the team up 4-0.

ASA tied the game in the top of the 4th. With the bases loaded and no one out, a double plated two runs and put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Harry Vargas plated the Silver Storm's third run on a sacrifice fly. Next batter, David Munoz, singled through the left side of the infield tying the game at four.

In the bottom of the 6th, Albert Espinosa doubled home Wilfredo Maldonado and Sal Grinstead to put the Panthers back on top 6-4.

Chuck Fishbaugh shut the door in the 9th as he came in to relieve JD Johnstone. Fishbaugh worked out of a 9th inning jam with a strike out swinging against the only batter he faced.

Espinosa led the Panthers with 3 RBI. Billy Poure led the team with 2 hits.
