Baseball Earns Split by Taking Game Two of Double-Header

Panthers snap one game skid, take game two of the double-header against FSCJ.

FSCJ struck first as they scored in the bottom of the third. After a steal and subsequently a throwing error by catcher Brannon Mondragon, FSCJ infielder Jayme Villafane advanced on a wild pitch from third to score the game's first run.

The teams traded zeroes until the top of the 7th when Tristan Moore took the first pitch he saw and drilled a home run over the right field fence to tie the game at one apiece.

Things would finally start to unravel for the rival Blue Wave in the 8th as the PBSC bats started to take over. On the first pitch of the inning, Gabriel Cruz tripled into the right-center field gap. Next batter, Dakota Gaillard struck out on three pitches, but advanced to first on a dropped third strike wild pitch. Cruz was held at 3rd. During the subsequent Justin Tew at bat, Gaillard stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Tew grounded out to short with a drawn in infield, leaving both runners stuck at 2nd and 3rd. After securing the first out of the inning, FSCJ promptly walked Brannon Mondragon to load the bases, bringing designated hitter Billy Poure to the plate. On the first pitch of the at bat, Poure drilled a single through the left side of the infield to score Cruz from third. Tristan Moore came to the plate and was hit with the first pitch he saw, driving in another run for the Panthers. With the infield still drawn in, Jarret Bickel pounced at the first pitch, which was fielded by the drawn in third baseman who fired home to the catcher for the 2nd out of the inning. However, the bases still remained juiced. Sal Grinstead singled scoring the Panthers' 4th run of the inning and Albert Espinosa drive home Grinstead with a double to left field. This was the 7th run that scored without an answer from FSCJ.

Chuck Fishbaugh came on in the 9th to shut the door and after two hit by pitches to start the inning, Fishbaugh retired the next three batters to seal the victory, 7-1.

Palm Beach pitching combined to allow one run on three hits over eight innings.
