Baseball Demolishes Polk State 17-3

Baseball scores 17 runs against Polk for their 3rd straight win.

Things remained scoreless until the top of the 4th, the second batter of the inning, Brannon Mondragon, hit a solo shot, putting the Panthers up 1-0. After two consecutive walks and a strikeout, Tristan Moore doubled to center driving home two but was out trying to take the extra bag at third. Panthers led 3-0 after 3.5 innings.

Polk struck back in the bottom half of the 4th, the first three batters of the inning reached base, scoring one. With runners on second and third, a groundout would score one, and a single through the left side of the infield by Polk left fielder George Davis tied the game at three.

After a scoreless 5th, the Palm Beach bats took control of the game. Eight runs crossed the plate and THIRTEEN (!) batters came to bat in the inning. Ironically enough, the Panthers did not do their damage with the long ball, scraping out six singles, three walks, and two hit batsmen to score the eight.

PBSC would tack on two in the 7th and four in the 9th highlighted by a 2-RBI triple by Dakota Gaillard in the top of the 9th.

Statistical leaders on the day include Dakota Gaillard and Tristan Moore, both led the team with three hits and 4 RBI. Billy Poure had two hits and 3 RBI out of the cleanup spot. Wilfredo Maldonado reached base four times in five trips to the dish.

On the pitching side, Anthony Martens earned his first victory as a Panther. The transfer from the University of West Florida tossed four innings, allowing two hits, one run, while striking out six. Seth Lovell finished off the final two innings out of the bullpen, allowing zero hits, and striking out four.
