Pioneers Close Out 2023 Undefeated at 12-0

FORT PIERCE, FL - The #20 Ranked Indian River State College Men's Basketball Team had one last test as the Fall Semester drew to a close. Palm Beach State College the #1 Ranked NJCAA Division II team in the state of Florida came to Mike Leatherwood Court planning on avenging a narrow 87-83 loss to the Pioneers on November 14. The River had a different idea. IRSC came out strong with its pressure defense and rebounding tenacity leading to a 57-40 lead at the half time intermission. IRSC would come out just as strong pushing the lead to 26 points before a late PBSC run would end the game at 102-85.

In a true team effort six Pioneers would score in double figures: Mostapha El Moutaouakkil with 24 points, Mykol Sanchez 19 points, Deng Majak 16 points, Mason Brown 15 points, Jayshayne Woodard 14 points and Michael Myrie 12 points.

The win caps a perfect 12-0 start to the season by the Pioneers and for the first time in recent history The River will head into the Holiday Break undefeated.

"I'm extremely proud of our team. [College Basketball] is an incredibly long season and you see teams lose the last game before break every year. Our team stay focused and executed and most importantly they have continued to improve as the season went on. Finishing the first semester undefeated is something to be very proud of. I don't care who you play, good teams get upset every night in this sport and a team can beat you on any given night. For our guys to avoid lapses and continually find a way to win is a testament for this special group." Coach Bill Morosco said.

IRSC will take the floor again on New Years Day at 2:00pm against Southern Union on Mike Leatherwood court.
