Volleyball Streak Stays Intact

The Pirates had another successful weekend on their home court, where they added two more conference wins, making their overall record 21-1 and still holding their undefeated conference record. 

On Friday, September 29th, Pensacola State opened their weekend with their annual yellow match in support of the fight against childhood cancer and the Berry Strong Foundation. 

They topped South Florida State College in a five-set showdown (25-12, 18-25, 25-23, 17-25 and 25-9). The defense for the Pirates put on a show, racking up a total of 90 digs and eight blocks. Maddie Mire led with 21 digs. Anyaliz Rodriguez notched another double-double match, bringing in 23 kills and 20 digs. Paige Patterson contributed 11 kills of her own along with outside hitter Lyndi Bakker with eight kills. The offense for Pensacola State was handled by Kiara Vega, who totaled 47 assists, two aces and 15 digs.  

Saturday afternoon the Pirates celebrated their sophomores in their annual Sophomore Day match, where they secured a 3-0 victory against Palm Beach State College (25-16, 25-19 and 26-24).  

Freshman, right side Cadence Goeden dominated the offense for the Pirates with 13 kills and no errors, hitting an average of .619. Patterson and Rodriguez were not far behind as they both brought in nine kills of their own. Vega ran the offense for the Pirates, dishing out 38 assists while Mire led the team in digs with 15 total. 

Pensacola State looks forward to hitting the road in two weeks where they will meet St. Johns River and Lake Sumter on October 13-14.
