Panthers Look Dominant in Win Over FSCJ

Panthers volleyball put on a show in a dominating win over FSCJ on Saturday.

The team had a quick turnaround after a long travel day on Friday, facing off against Florida Gateway, which ended in a 3-2 win. With that working against them, one could have assumed they would come out slow against FSCJ. That turned out to not be the case whatsoever. In fact, Palm Beach put together their most complete performance on Saturday, erasing any doubt that they are a top team in Region VIII.

In the first set, PBSC came out of the gate on fire. The first point of the game was a statement by the visiting Panthers, as they blocked the opening return volley and then had a service ace to go up quickly 2-0. Palm Beach would take the first set 25-13.

The second set was more even in terms of quality play, with each team trading points. Palm Beach found themselves down 22-23 when Head Coach Drew Colvin called a timeout. The teams then tied at 24-24 , 25-25, and 26-26 before the Panthers pulled ahead on a Hailey Hart kill 28-26.

With all of the momentum in their favor, the Panthers completely dominated the third set. In the middle of the set, Palm Beach led by 8 points, before winning the final set by 10 points on a block out of bounds.

Familiar names for the Panthers atop the stat leader board. Dena Otte and Bianca Justamante completed their great weekend with great follow-up performances against FSCJ. They were the top two scorers on Saturday afternoon. Angelina Botolino continued her torrid pace, finishing third on the team in scoring , providing the Panthers with much-needed depth on the outside. Darlenis Medina once again led the team in DIGS, finishing with 25. Natalie Faulkner led the team in assists with 34 whilst adding 7 DIGS of her own. Both Medina and Faulkner are among the league leaders in DIGS and assists, with Medina leading the league in DIGS and Faulkner 2nd in assists per set.

Palm Beach has another busy week ahead as they travel to Leesburg to take on Lake-Sumter State College on Friday before finishing off the weekend with two matches against St. John's River State College and Spartanburg Methodist next Saturday in Palatka, FL.
