Volleyball Takes 2 of 3 in Santa Fe Tournament

Lake Worth Beach, FL -- The 2019-2020 volleyball season started off with a bang, as the Panthers took 2-3 from #5 ranked Santa Fe College and State College of Florida.

The Panthers started slow in their first regular season action on Friday night against Daytona State College, losing the match in 3 sets. Freshmen Madison Barton and Jazmine Sustaita made their collegiate debuts, with Barton leading the team in points (11.5) and kills (9).

On Saturday, the Panthers started strong against Santa Fe College, defeating a team that lost only 5 games last season. In only her second career game, Madison Barton put on a scorching performance, once again leading the team in points (26.5). Martha Torres, Bella Magrino, and Aleksandra Hamuda each contributed double-digit point totals. The match was even between the two teams was highly contested, with both teams needing a 5th and deciding set to determine a winner. The Panthers pulled out the victory winning the last set by a convincing 15-11.

The last game of the weekend featured a matchup of the two teams just outside of the 10 in the state in Palm Beach and State College of Florida. The Panthers won 2 sets convincingly 25-18 and 25-18 before the Manatees battled back. The Panthers pulled out a win in the 5th set 16-14 in a long, highly-contested battle. 5 Palm Beach players scored 10 points or more. Aleksandra Hamuda and Madison Barton led the team in points.


Through 3 games, Palm Beach players are dominating the leaderboards -- 3 players are within the top 5 in three different stat categories. Sydney Ashner ranks 2nd in assists with 9.92 assists per game, Madison Barton and Martha Torres rank 2nd and 5th in blocks per set.

The Panthers are off until the 27th when they play a scrimmage match against Nova Southeastern University. They then will travel to Ocala, FL to play in this weekend's Patriots' Volleyball Tournament at the College of Central Florida. The team will play 2 games on Friday -- 11:00 AM against #3 ranked St. Persburg College and 3 PM versus Florida State College at Jacksonville. On Saturday, the Panthers will take on Spartanburg Methodist at 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM versus Santa Fe College.
