Women's Basketball Wins Region 8 Championship
For the 2nd straight season, Palm Beach State College Women's Basketball has won the Region 8 Championship.
Looking to build off a strong 2022-23 season, the goals were set high for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers returned Ashley Thornton, Keri Cooper, and Savannah McAfee from a team that won the Region 8 Championship but fell short in the South Atlantic District Tournament. Coming into the season, expectations were to repeat as Region 8 Champs.
"Coach Mike and I set the tone right from the beginning of the year; our goal was to at least repeat as Region 8 champions and see what happens from there," said Head Coach Maureen Smith.
With an 80-66 victory over FSC-Jacksonville, the Lady Panthers acheived that goal. With only 2 Division II teams in Region 8, Palm Beach State and FSC-Jacksonville agreed to play each other 3 times, with the winner of the 3 game series being named the Region 8 champion.
Next up for the Lady Panthers is sophomore night on the Lake Worth Campus gym Wednesday February 21st at 5:30pm, followed by a road trip up to FSC-Jacksonville on February 24th to wrap up the regular season.
As Region 8 Champs, the Lady Panthers qualify for the Gulf South District Championship game at 2pm eastern/1pm central March 9th at Coastal Alabama Community College-South in Bay Minette, Alabama.
