Maureen Smith Captures Southern Conference Coach of the Year

Presenting your 2019-2020 Southern Conference Coach of the Year, Coach Maureen Smith!

Coach Smith guided women's basketball to a 19-11 record, including an 11-1 conference record, en route to a Southern Conference Championship. The team went undefeated in the month of January, had a winning streak of 9 games, and won 15 out of their last 17. As a result of the Southern Conference Championship, the women's team qualified for the state tournament -- their first trip to the tournament since the 2013-2014 season.

In addition, Coach Smith helped mold Izzy Allen and Alma Danielsson into 1st Team All-Southern Conference players; while Maria Benitez-Zayas, Caleese Ramirez, Stina Rehn-Andersson, and Amaya Small made the 2nd Team. 

Coach Smith wanted to make sure that assistant coaches Mike Yousefian and Jasmine Borders received recognition for their part in the season's success.
