Panthers Fall to Miami Dade, Eastern Florida

Panthers' Softball fell to Miami Dade and Eastern Florida in the final two games of the Southern Conference tournament.

Palm Beach struck first as a single and a walk set up Rileigh Manning with runners in scoring position -- and she delivered. An RBI single put the Panthers ahead 1-0. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the 4th inning. An error, sacrifice bunt, and ground ball single put runners at the corners with one out. A sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-1.

The game could be described as a pitcher's duel as both teams traded "zeroes" for the majority of the game. Palm Beach starter Sydney Kadur allowed just 1 run through 8 innings.

In the 9th, Palm Beach finally broke through Miami Dade pitching. Leah Carman led off the inning with a ground ball single. She was replaced on the bases by Makenna Sartain. Lauran Meadow would sacrifice, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position. Skylar Jones smashed a double down the left field line that scored Sartain to take a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Miami Dade would rally back. A leadoff ground ball single put the tying run on base. A sacrifice bunt, then a line drive single, put runners at 1st and 3rd. A wild pitch allowed Miami Dade to tie the game at 2-2. Finally, a double to center field, which nearly left the yard, gave Miami Dade the win 3-2.

Destiny Cornelius would come on in relief and finish the remainder of the game.

Moving to the bottom of the 3rd, with the score 5-1 Eastern Florida, the Panthers would score 2 runs of their own to cut the lead to 5-3. Rileigh Manning lead off the inning with a line drive single. Leah Carman and Lauran Meadow would both walk, loading the bases. Destiny Cornelius came through with a 2-RBI single. Sydney Kadur would fly out to end the threat.
