Ceballos Fires Complete Game Shutout in Season Finale

Lake Worth, FL -- Palm Beach Stater Roger Ceballos threw a complete game, 2-hit shutout against a powerful Miami Dade lineup. He walked none and struck out 7.

Ceballos, who has been seeing more playing time down the stretch, has been one of the Panthers' most reliable pitchers over the season's final 2 months. Today, he made it look easy, firing 78 strikes and only 20 balls en route to his first collegiate victory.

In a scoreless game in the top of the 3rd, the Panthers had a chance to go ahead after Jisjar Clotida doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. The next 2 batters, Ray Sanchez and Ricky Neyman, struck out to end the threat.

Miami Dade threatened in the bottom of the 5th after they recorded their first hit of the ballgame, a double to center field. After a sacrifice bunt, Ceballos was able to force groundout to 3rd, presumably with the infield drawn in, and coaxed a fly ball to center to end the inning.

The Panthers finally broke thorough in the 9th. Tal Erel led off the inning with a double. Jefrey Encarnacion and David Munoz both walked to load the bases with no one out. With the infield drawn in, Jisjar Clotida grounded into a fielder's choice which nabbed the runner at home. Ray Sanchez struck out looking, which set the stage for Ricky Neyman. Neyman, who had made two errors and was 0-4 on the day, came through with a clutch 2-RBI single to put the team on top 2-0.

Roger Ceballos finished off the 9th with a 1-2-3 inning to seal the victory.

The Panthers saw their season come to an end on Saturday, finishing the year at 24-20 and a 10-14 conference record. The team finished tied for 4th in the Southern Conference. However, there should be some individual awards so stay tuned for that. With the end of the baseball season, that brings to a close the 2018-'19 year for Panther Athletics. We will be gearing up for 2019-'20; which, hopefully, will bring forth a few championships. Thank you all for your support and go Panthers!
