Baseball Drops Game #2 of 3-Game Series to Indian River

Lake Worth, FL -- The Palm Beach State Baseball team dropped the 2nd game of their 3-game series with Indian River, 5-12.

In what was an errorless game, Palm Beach pitching was hit hard; giving up 12 runs on 12 hits, 3 wild pitches, a hit batsman, and issued 11 walks.

The Panthers took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st. Ray Sanchez homered on a pitch to center field, driving home Joe Smith. From there, the Panthers would not recover. They were outscored 12-0 until the 7th when the team put up 3 runs; however, the game was well in hand for Indian River after the nightmarish 4th inning in which the Panthers coughed up 7 runs -- all earned.

In th 4th, with Michael Demo on the mound, Demo served up a grand slam to Indian River hitter Jeremy Davis. Three batters later, with James Meyers on the mound in relief, Meyers surrendered a 3-run shot to Carter Chancey, his only hit of the ballgame. Palm Beach pitching surrendered 6 hits and allowed 3 walks in the inning.

With 2 outs in the top of the 7th, the Panthers scored for the first time since the 1st inning. Jefrey Encarnacion plated the first run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The next batter, Gabriel Marinez, singled on a line drive to right field, which brought in 2 more Panther runners. Ricky Neyman lined out to right field to end the inning.

The Panthers will come home for the rubber game of the 3-game series versus Indian River on Saturday April 13. The game will begin at 1:00 on the Lake Worth Campus. As always, admission is free.
