Panthers Complete Sweep of Miami Dade in Comeback Win

Lake Worth, FL -- Panthers' Baseball rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Miami Dade 5-3, completing the sweep of the 3 game series.

The game remained scoreless through 2 innings. In fact, only 1 hitter reached base for either team during the first 2 frames.

Miami Dade struck first in the top of the 3rd. With 2 outs, Shane Roberts allowed what seemed to be a harmless 2-out double. The next batter, singled driving home the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the 5th, Palm Beach seemed destined to answer back. 2 errors put runners at 1st and 3rd with Jisjar Clotida, arguably Palm Beach's best hitter, at the plate. Clotida chased a pitch in the dirt with 2 strikes to end the threat.

In the top of the 6th, with 1 out, 3 straight singles extended the Miami Dade lead by 2. Shane Roberts was able to coax a ground ball to turn the double play but the Panthers could not turn 2 and Miami Dade took advantage.

The Panthers would come back with 2 of their own in the bottom half of the inning. A walk and a single put runners at 1st and 2nd for cleanup hitter Ray Sanchez. Sanchez sacrificed putting 2 runners in scoring position. Joe Smith fought off a fastball and by the time the shortstop could field it, Smith had an RBI single. Gabriel Marinez would groundout, scoring Mason Doolittle to close the lead 3-2.

Fast forward to the bottom of the 7th, the score remained 3-2. Mason Doolittle would single and Ray Sanchez would double home Doolittle to tie the game at 3. This was the 1st time the Panthers had not trailed all day. After a Joe Smith walk, 2 wild pitches allowed Sanchez to score and the Panthers would take their 1st lead of the game 4-3. Gabriel Marinez would single to bring home Smith and that ended the scoring on the day for either team.

Alex Dominguez come on in relief of Shane Roberts and retired the side, allowing 1 walk.

Shelby Frazier threw the 9th in search of his 3rd save. He allowed 2 hits, both singles, but the runners never advanced past 2nd, earning a Panther victory.
