8 Run Inning Punctuates Panthers Win Over Miami Dade

Lake Worth, FL -- The Panthers' Baseball team scored 8 runs in the 2nd inning to help lead them to victory over Miami Dade, 10-6.

Miami Dade took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Yet the Panthers would answer back with a vengeance. The first 8 batters for Palm Beach would reach in the inning. Mason Doolittle led off the inning with a double, Joe Smith singled, and Gabriel Marinez singled to score the 1st Palm Beach run of the afternoon. Ray Sanchez then singled to score 2 to give the Panthers their first lead of the day, 3-2. Jefry Encarnacion singled and Reid Zitzelberg would walk, which set up Jisjar Clotida, who would then single on a fly ball to left field, to score another run. Noah Orlando singled on a ground ball to third base to extend the Panther lead to 5-2. The bases were loaded and Mason Doolittle came up to bat. Doolittle drilled a fly ball to center field scoring all 3 runners on base to extend the Panther lead 8-2. This was Doolittle's 2nd extra-base hit of the inning.

In the top of the 3rd, Reid Zitzelberg led off the inning with a single. He was then thrown out at 2nd on a fielder's choice. Noah Orlando singled putting runners at 1st and 2nd. Andrew Martinez singled on a fly ball to center field to score another Panther run. The score at that point was 9-2.

In the top of the 4th, Joe Smith would score on a wild pitch to extend the Panther lead to 10-2.

The rest of the game was largely uneventful except for the bottom of the 7th. Miami Dade would score 3 to cut the lead to 10-6. Roger Ceballos allowed one inherited runner to score and was charged with 2 runs of his own. Ultimately, Ceballos would settle down and did not allow a hit over the final 2 frames to earn the save, his 2nd of the year.

Yordy Cabrera earns his 2nd collegiate win. He tossed 6 innings allowing 4 runs, 4 earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 5.

The Panthers will be at home on Saturday, 3:00 p.m., to round out the series against Miami Dade. The Panthers will look to extend their win streak to 3 games.
