Athletic Department Finishes 23-24 Academic Year with 3.30 GPA
Palm Beach State College's athletic teams were the epitome of the term "student-athlete" for 2023-2024 academic year. Not only were Beach Volleyball able to capture their 2nd straight NJCAA National Championship, as well as Region 8 Championship, Women's Basketball also were Region 8 Champions and Gulf South District Runner-ups, while Men's Basketball and Baseball qualified for the Region 8 tournament and had their own opportunities to compete for a championship.
But the Panthers also showed off their skills in the classroom as well. All 5 of the Panther teams combined for a 3.30 GPA, with all 5 teams having over a 3.0 GPA. An outstanding 8 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA over the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Baseball had 2 members achieve that feat, pitcher Nico Gutierrez-Vila and outfielder Anthony Ruiz, with Anthony Ruiz having a perfect 4.0 both years he was a Panther. They volleyball teams had 3, leading with 2-time Beach Volleyball National Champion Ana Paula Fallas Cruz, and being joined by Ellianna Sawyer and Sophia Soderberg. Women's basketball also had 3, with Ashley Thornton joining Anthony with having a 4.0 for 2 straight years. Teammates Leta Adamo and Sarah Gorman also had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
As a department, 21 student-athletes made the President's List (3.8 GPA or higher) while another 23 made the Dean's List (3.2-3.79 GPA). Over 63% of all student-athletes had a 3.0 GPA or higher.
